BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — As the country returns to pre-pandemic life, according to the CDC the risk for COVID-19 here in Kern County is now considered “low.”

“We have easier access to at-home tests and people don’t always notify the health department when their tests are positive which can make our positivity rates look a little bit lower than they actually are,” said Deanna Padilla, Family Nurse Practitioner and Associate Medical Director at Omni Family Health.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — Throughout the global pandemic, health care professionals have made a significant impact within our community and around the world to keep our loved ones and families safe.

“Inevitably, our actions related to all of that continue to change, and we just got to keep pushing forward,” said Deanna Padilla, Family Nurse Practitioner for Omni Family Health.

The global pandemic has had a heavy impact on the lives of those within our community and around the world.

Even if we are not in the final stages of an end-demic, Deanna Padilla said that healthcare professionals will continue to put the needs of others first. “Healthcare workers, we’ve all worked relentlessly through this pandemic. Everyone is doing what they’re doing best which is putting the needs of others before our own. I think we just have to remember why we got into this profession in the first place.”

Kern County doctors explain the importance of COVID booster for children https://omnifamilyhealth.org/kern-county-doctors-explain-the-importance-of-covid-booster-for-children/ Thu, 20 Jan 2022 17:24:00 +0000 https://omnifamilyhealth.org/?p=10460 COVID-19 is a leading cause of death in America

Posted: 5:24 PM, Jan 20, 2022 Updated: 12:54 PM, Jan 31, 2022. By: Breanna Polk, 23ABC , Anthony Wright, 23ABC. Anu Rao, MD, Omni Family Health Pediatrician.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that 75% of all Americans have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, but there’s still concern over vaccinations including when and if children should receive the booster shot.

Dr. Anuradha Rao with Omni Family Health asked, “They can transmit the disease to their grandparents, their parents, their relatives who are susceptible. And with all the school absences and lack of playdates and lack of extracurricular activity and sports. Wouldn’t it be great to have immunity against the disease?”

But what is considered a healthy child?

“Kids who don’t have underlying illnesses like asthma or diabetes or immunological problems where their immune system is suppressed like cancer,” explained Dr. Rao.

But Dr. Rao says that doesn’t mean healthy children aren’t susceptible to the virus. “There can be perfectly healthy children who get a case of COVID. Most of them thank God do well, but there are also several who have died. Right now COVID is in the top ten list of causes of death of children in the United States.”
